Discovery is a pioneering market leader with uniquely positioned businesses in the healthcare, long- and short-term insurance, wellness, and financial services industries. Following the introduction of the revised B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice, Discovery has developed an Enterprise and Supplier Development Programme to develop a pool of potential entrepreneurs and existing businesses that wish to contribute meaningfully to Discovery's business areas. This programme has exciting opportunities that may be broadly categorised as providing financial and non-financial support to qualifying businesses. Please note that the Discovery Enterprise & Supplier Development Investment Committee sits on a regular basis to decide on support to qualifying enterprises. Applicants may be contacted accordingly in due course for any further information or clarification.


Kindly check if you meet the minimum qualifying criteria below before completing the application form. Only completed application forms with the relevant supporting documents will be considered, incomplete forms will be automatically disqualified. You agree and accept that our Business Development Providers may need to contact you to evaluate your business and nature of your request before a decision can be made. Applicants will have to undergo a highly intensive assessment and evaluation process before support can be granted. You must disclose if you are currently receiving or have received Enterprise Development Support from other institutions (note this does not disqualify you, but helps us understand the profile of applicants).

Minimum Qualifying Criteria

You must have a business idea or existing business that is aligned to Discovery's business focus areas and their Enterprise and Supplier Development Programme:

To qualify you have to be a:

  • An established businesses within the health, insurance, wellness or financial services sectors;
  • An entrepreneur with an innovative business idea
    • Exempt Micro Enterprise (EME) - annual turnover of less than R10 million or
    • Qualifying Small Enterprise (QSE) - annual turnover of less than 50 million
    • South African Citizen
    • Your business must be at least 51% black-owned or 51% black-women owned


Registered business must attach all the requested documents below:

  • Copy of ID
  • Copy of business registration documents
  • Copy of IDs of all black shareholders
  • B-BBEE Certificate or Exemption Affidavit or CIPC documentation (if EME)

"Black" according to the Codes is a generic term which means Africans, Coloureds and Indians who are:

  • citizens of the Republic of South Africa by birth or descent; or
  • who became citizens of the Republic of South Africa by naturalisation -
    • before 27/04/1994;
    • on or after 27/04/1994 and who would have been entitled to acquire citizenship by naturalisation prior to that date.
